The Right Triangle and the Secant Function

A Right Triangle Relative to angle A, this is how the sides of a right triangle would be labeled.

The secant of angle A equals the length of the hypotenuse divided by the length of the adjacent side.

We could write:

sec(A) = hyp / adj

So, for example, if the length of the hypotenuse was 10 and the length of the adjacent side was 8, then we would write:

sec(A) = 10 / 8

sec(A) = 1.2500
