XVA - Constant Acceleration Animate 3

Here we see an animation that shows the relation between these two quantities:

  • The slope of the v vs. t graph.
  • The value of the acceleration.

Also, one can see the relation between these two quantities:

  • The slope of the x vs. t graph.
  • The value of the velocity.
x vs. t graph v vs. t graph a vs. t graph
The object always starts at the same position, 0.0 m. It moves away from that starting position with a changing velocity. Each of the object's velocities is changing, (except the velocity that is constantly 0.0 m/s). The constant acceleration is changing through values spanning from +1.5 m/s2 to -1.5 m/s2.

This XVA program demonstration is set up for xo = 0.0 m, vo = -4.0 m/s, and a = 1.5 m/s2. You can change the acceleration to other values and see situations similar to those shown in this animation.

Comments:

  • The constant value of the a vs. t graph is equal to the constant slope of the v vs. t graph.
  • When the acceleration is constant and positive, the slope of the v vs. t graph is constant and positive. When the acceleration is constant and negative, the slope of the v vs. t graph is constant and negative.
  • When the value of the velocity is increasing with time, the slope of the x vs. t graph is continually added to as time passes.
  • When the value of the velocity is decreasing with time, the slope of the x vs. t graph is continually subtracted from as time passes.
  • See Constant Acceleration Animate 1 for a similar situation but with vo = 0.0 m/s.
  • See Constant Acceleration Animate 2 for a similar situation but with vo = 4.0 m/s.
